An open letter to all GOM residents and Beyond

July 4, 2010

Greetings to all of you on this 4th of July.

Actually this also goes out to the people of Mexico and Cuba who lie with-in range of the disaster at the Deepwater Horizon.

First of all, please take heart. We are all with you, if not in person, then surely in spirit. Even those of us not yet aware of what has happened and is happening even as I type, everyone can feel that something has changed forever.

Second, I hope all of you or most of you or at the very least some of you can be pro-active with regards to what is coming.

What is coming, just as surely as a hurricane will come, sooner rather than later, is beyond the capacity of anyone to see with any clarity, since this is uncharted territory, but all of us in the know, know it is going to be terrible.

Terrible on a scale heretofore unknown to us, in scope, in magnitude and in the various aspects of trouble it will cause.

You are on the front-line. The reasons for why you get to be on the front-lines for all of humanity might be because you are resilient. You are people of the ocean, used to it’s power and it’s vagaries.

Again though, nothing of the scope and magnitude of what is barreling down upon you has ever been witnessed before.

May I suggest that you bow to the power of nature, of this time and the abject powerlessness we actually possess in the face of nature.

Please prepare so that heart-rending scenes we have all seen from Katrina, from Haiti and from the tsunamis in the recent may not be repeated.

In this light, I’d like to suggest the following. What I am going to suggest will be good medicine for all of us, but for you, right now, it is imperative.

1. Take care of yourself. You are facing evacuation. It can be voluntary or forced. It will tax you terribly, physically and emotionally. Get prepared. Get a quick health check-up. Quit drinking beer. Stock up on basic medicines. Buy some hydrogen peroxide (it is good for a vast variety of things). Start exercising a little bit. You will need to show super-human stamina if you are to make it through.

2. Take care of your family. Same as above. Talk about what will happen if even the not-so-worst case situations arise. At the very least you are facing years away from the land and the work you know. Kids will be parted from school, friends, social network. Tighten up as a unit. Get everyone healthy. Get that dental job you have been putting off done. Now. Tomorrow. Don’t wait.

3. Things. We all have to many things. Look into your garages and attics and you will see the truth of what I am saying. Begin the mother of all spring cleanings. If you have not seen something for a few years, you do not need it. Aside from heirlooms (which you can easily carry), get rid of everything. How? Suggestion follows.

4. Set out your things in two piles. Needs and Wants. Be ruthless with yourself. No time for sentimentality. Pare down the needs items to essentials. Sell the rest. Do garage sales. Do community garage sales. Set up a community e-bay page. Someone in your neighbourhood must be an e-bayer. Let them manage it. Someone somewhere needs your wants. LEt them go.

Use the system while it is still intact. Use craigslist, use e-bay whatever. Make it a block or a street or a community or a town drive. Ridding yourself of excess. It will make all of you feel better. It will bind you stronger as a community.

Remember, old cars, second cars, third bikes, that one you kept for restoring, grandpa’s 66 Camaro, all of it. Let it GO.

It will also put much needed money in your pocket for what is ahead.

5. Study places you can go. If you have a boat, find safe harbours up-coast, east or west. Cannot go into details here, but your services will be desperately needed in the coming times. We are all going back to sea and seafaring people are actually at a big advantage. So, load up that boat and get sailing.

For others, look up-country. Look at places with low population densities. Even the fast sinking real-estate you currently own might buy you a few acres in good places. Look at places where your skills will be handy. Even if you are fisherman, you have tremendous skills that can translate. Start to fire up the entrepreneurial feeling. Jobs are scarce everywhere. Be ready to start afresh in every way. Look for schooling for the kids now, instead of in a rush later. Be pro-active.

6. With any money you make from the sales of your excesses, buy some silver. Coin form is best. It will help preserve your money (might even grow it in the midst of the mess) and you will need it.  Buy gas masks. Buy small water purifiers. Get an extra gas tank for the car.  Buy a trailer. Some might even be surprised at how much value you have stored up in your attics and garages.

7. Sell the home now. While it still has some value in someone’s eyes. Be pro-active. Look constantly to what happened to people’s lives during Katrina. Now blow that up a factor of 10. Maybe more. Then you will understand the scope of what is needed from you.

8. Get a small piece of land somewhere. Start a small farm. We all have an instinct to grow, even if dormant. It is not so hard to be self-sufficient. Especially if pare down our needs and eliminate our wants (at least for a while).

9. Pray. Whether you believe in a god, any god or no god at all, prayer means going deeper into your-self. The fountain of all belief, faith, courage, wisdom lie with-in us. Go there. You will need to call on your inner reserves and doing it in the face of trouble is like a thirsty man starting to dig a well when he is really thirsty.

What you have coming to you is going to come to all of us, in some way, shape or form, sooner or not so later. We’ll look to you for how you handled adversity with fortitude, fore-sight, compassion and care.

Be strong.

Be well.

Be wise.

With much love and many blessings from the world over.

Could you be a bit more specific about what catastrophe you foresee?

    Vivek,

How timely, needed & wise message& call to action! For reasons, occasions & needs even beyond the GOM crisis. Thanks for expressing, sharing & being so thoughtful, caring & pragmatic. We ALL have to be pro-active & prepare for the worst while working for the BEST. And I know you are doing both as well. Thank YOU on behalf of all those affected & all of us who will eventually be down the line.
May our strength, courage & wisdom prevail. Happy Freedom day!

Yes Darina. But I say even beyond freedom.

      In-dependence. Such a telling word. In-dependence.
Dune had an interesting quote (one of priceless many) about freedom, and I think it was from the sayings of the Sisterhood.

Seek freedom and become captive of your desires. Seek discipline and find your liberty.
      The Coda

Those are the two key words. In-dependence and liberty.
And you find them in discipline.

Yes it is beyond freedom Vivek & beyond this crisis and next one.
That IS a great quote & wise advice. But just as in-dependence includes ‘dependence’ in it & in our search for freedom, we have to be more than ever aware of our INTER-dependence & shed all illusion of separation. Add to that co-creation & we have much more power & leverage than the sum of our parts/numbers.

        Here’s more to humor!

Good to know u are aware of the scope of this Disaster. Can u believe that even as this Catastrophe snowballs into an EPIC Disaster, there is a weird calm in the US media? Almost if the powers that be know the Truth but don’t want anyone else to know? Now i hope u get my point about what a
Looming Disaster that religious conversion in India while the entire Press and People there are almost as silent as we are about the GOM? Saaaaddddd…

Sesha, I think one of my key “places-I-want-to-be” in life is reconciling the “sad” element with the inevitability of the wave’s momentum, yes? And at some point, countervailing forces cannot cause any meaningful shift anyways. We are at the point in a snowball’s life when it’s run all the way down the mountain and is about to meet an unmovable force.

Quite a paradox, at the base of which lies “true” detachment.

    Hii there,

it seems to me like your article and your message didnt make it throuhg to many ears, maybe coz people are busy !

well, you may be right of what is coming, but i think what is coming is not only to the GOM its coming to the whole wolrd and sooner than the ignorant people might think.

this GOM issue never been exposed, many reports, many commnents, many hoaxes, many expelnations, well yaa rite…. what i know for sure is something ugly had happened and something even much more uglier is about to happen.

poor people are not ready for anything, maybe few are but most are still watching Lebron pissing on them and yet they like it.

      Hi Hasan,

Clearly people are busy. Such is this time. Treadmill lives do not give much time for much else. And yes, it is coming to all of us.

So a good time to become in-dependent, lead by example, yes?

where is the proof. i believe the govt is satanic controlled, but telling people to sell their homes and quit their jobs without proof that people are sick and a volcano is about to blow is criminal too. I am a man from the south, from Ga. give us something and you will not have to flee, we will take matters into our own hands. I am ex military, an officer, worked for CPS/DSS special investigator and saw first hand the satanic SRA cases swept under the rug, I know this satanic stuff is real. i kow Obama is queer as a three dollar bill. the men down here just need a reason, we grew up with it. we will go through their gay officers like warm butter, take their weapons and storm their gates, give us a reason! i believe in david ickes work, and the creatures these satanist worship feed off fear, depression, anxiety, etc. we need to be careful not to feed these creatures as well. if they are indeed killing our women, we will not run! no way. this is our land, they are going to have to take it. those fat cops and GED toy soldiers of theirs will get wooped. every good officer left the military years ago becuase of the corruption. stop living in fear, believe in god, no one can stand against us. the men in the south are like the male lions in africa. the females go out and hunt, take care of us, then the evil hyenas start killing the females. other females start calling out to the males to wake up. when those male lions do wake up, the evil hyenas start clammering in the dark, getting circled by something viscious. the male lions go into them, in the dark, and kill their leader immediately. this is what we will do, military, if you take out the enemy’s leadership, those fat, dumb cops and national guard punks will scatter like roaches with no one to tell them what to do. and another thing, stop listening to alex jones. read michael aquino mind wars, handler for alex jones infowars. read what mr. Aquino did, ex NSA top man. this mind control business is out of hand. we should have taken action when we found out what the satanist wwere/ are doing to our children. Austin TX is a hot bed for satanist, alex jones is one. michael aquino started the temple of set in ca and moved it to where – austin Tx. alex jones needs to be dealt with too, he is misleading so many people with fear and hoplessness. listen to your heart, no these people.

      Hi Moe,

I hear you. All the things you have said. And the anger/confusion is completely justified. I’ve lived in the US for 12 years, I know. It is the most amazing mixture of greatness and for lack of a single word, many things that make you sick to the stomach.

But in this scenario, the advice to move is given seeing the inevitability of a Gulf State evacuation. It’s clear to see where this is headed. At least one Hurricane guaranteed? It will be enough.

So, take care of you and yours. If you are strong, you can help others. Weak men cannot do battle.

Good luck to you and I really hope the worst case scenario never comes to pass. Then you can collectively take care of all the other things you mention.

I’ll tell you that “Beyond” includes the entire North American continent east of the Rockies including the Caribbean. The further south, the more contaminated, but we will all be over the safe limits for poison. BP does not have enough money to pay for the damages.
