Benoit Mandelbrot Died Last week…
Greetings,
For those of you who have read along for a while, you must have come across the word Fractal a few times in my writing. It is a dominant theme in my thinking because it is a dominant theme in creation. We live a fractal life in a fractal Universe.
The man who discovered that conclusively (mathematically) was Benoit Mandelbrot. Any student of Mathematics or engineering will be well familiar with the Mandelbrot Set.
He died last week.
His work is considered a critical component of information systems and theory. We would not be communicating this easily, but for him.
Reacting to news of his death, mathematician Heinz-Otto Peitgensaid “if we talk about impact inside mathematics, and applications in the sciences, he is one of the most important figures of the last 50 years.”Chris Anderson described Mandelbrot as “an icon who changed how we see the world.
Visual beauty is just one small part…

Thank you Benoit or should I say Merci!
Merci Vivek & RIP Benoit!
What a man, what a life, what a contribution. Even he confessed that “Now that I near 80, I realize with wistful pleasure that on many occasions I was 10, 20, 40, even 50 years ahead of my time. My fate has been that what I undertook was fully understood only after the fact.”
I had the luck to see/hear Benoit Mandelbrot live digitally during the last TED conference where he presented fro the second time & it was a real treat. TED celebrated him & his legacy in their blog & there is a link to his latest TEDtalk too.

I LOVE Fractals for so many reasons – their visual beauty, symmetry & harmony are truly an essential part of the sacred geometry in our Fractal digiverse indeed! And so much more!
Lucky you Darina.
Yup, Fractals are all that and more. I find them visually arresting in the deepest sense of the word. Cannot take my eyes off.
