On cue…goombye truth, hello sweet lie!

March 31, 2011

Greetings,

As if on cue, to defend a myth, the Indian government is proposing making the “Insulting” of Gandhi a criminal offense. I had to laugh at that. The sale of the book I referenced is already banned.

I suppose the fight to protect the myth that this current myth of nationhood is based on has to be fought. As dis-closure comes, we can look at a fast narrowing of what is considered “free’ expression of thought.

Makes me want to leave here, such a point-less fight. Ugh!

The proposal:

Even as the Gujarat government on Wednesday banned the book on Mahatma Gandhi by Joseph Lelyveld that has run into controversy for allegedly saying he was a bisexual and a racist, the Centre is now mulling a law that would make showing any disrespect to the Father of the Nation an offence punishable with a jail term.

Sources in the Law Ministry said the ministry had been asked to suggest amendment to the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, so as to make any action or gesture that shows disrespect to Gandhi an offence at par with an offence against the National Flag or the Constitution.

Lelyveld’s book Great Soul: Mahatma Gandhi And His Struggle With India quotes letters which suggest Gandhi had an affair with German-Jewish architect and bodybuilder Hermann Kallenbach, for whom he supposedly left his wife Kasturba in 1908. The book also indicates the Mahatma had a racial bias towards Black Africans. ”

In my mind, this is at par with the banning of discussions/debate on the question of the Hollowcast in many European countries, particularly Germany, where you can be arrested and many have been. You are not even really able to get fair representation, who is going to let you “dig” for facts?

And this is where we are collectively sliding, because the truth can rip apart this facade we are currently living.

Our entire cultural mythos is a fabric of lies built upon greater lies. Look no farther than the US of A, that master arbiter of what passes for truth in this world gone insane.

War is peace, a war-monger gets the nobel “peace” prize, a “doctor” will “cure” you, drugs are good, drugs are bad. On and on and on. I’ve tried truth-speaking in circles outside the “eye-open” crowd and the hostility is palpable. As is the vacant glaze over the proverbial eye and cotton stuffed deep into the ear.

Hear no truth, speak no truth, see no truth. Except what you are told is okay for your consumption. Keeps you safe and functioning. Indeed it does, in a diseased mirage of what passes for society.

The tragedy is of course the loss of “feeling” and the burial of conscience, a word whose true depth is now un-known to all but a few. The other victim is consciousness. Our system is so full of white-noise from all around, pounding us like surf on a beach… incessant, on-going, relentless.

It takes WORK to dig. Even into a thing as chimerical as the mind-space. In fact the work can be a Sisyphus-ian, Herculean task precisely because of that in-tangible nature.

To let go of an idea, deeply enough embedded is harder by far than to let go of a possession. And so we live in a world where the idea of anything is deeply controlled from child-birth on.

We live in an Idea Prison. Much like the 8 of swords in the Tarot Deck, we are free but cannot see. And so we stay trapped in a maze of implanted ideas and fears engendered there-of.

Such a tragic testament to the loss of vitality in us as a species and the loss of courage in us individually.

For want of a nail…….

I’ve had Kandy, Sri Lanka ping my mind for the last three years or so. Again and again. Twice I’ve tried to visit, stopped by “higher” powers. So ever more curious. Searching searching.
Edit: looked up your blog. Synchronicity such as this is mind boggling. I’ve had “Invest In Sri Lanka” and consular contacts open on my browser all morning. 🙂 I see that as a sign!…

Again though, to the larger world out there… we need a space to re-create the womb from which we may be born-again.

      Any ideas?

      Anyone?
I’m looking to set up an Un-De-Sign village. So can re-new, a-new.

Count me in. My life just got completely uprooted and I’m ready to start over. It isn’t impossible to imagine those of us who care to see being able to begin something that will inspire and lead the world out of insanity.

Awesome Downrodeo. I’ll keep everyone here posted. it is taking shape, I just need to share the plan when ready and have everyone coming on-board be “Clear” individuals/families. Many signs telling me that the time is now. Please feel free to share more about your “self” with me on e-mail.

    Vivek,

You can be far- and wide-reaching. We need your in-sight and openness. Not out-of-sight
(I wanted to say protect yourself. But you already know what to do, I am sure.), although the e-format may end abruptly…

The fight with-out, and with-in goes on.

    Thanks for sharing.

“The other victim is consciousness. Our system is so full of white-noise from all around, pounding us like surf on a beach… incessant, on-going, relentless.”

So true, my friend. And when we can finally realize – some suddenly, some gradually – just how closed-off we’ve been and for just how long, in this culture and time it’s nothing less than a miracle. We are truly a people of sleep-walkers. And in this – in the quality, extent and pervasiveness of illusion – our time is unique. But also it is nothing new. For all our ingenuity, cleverness and technical innovation as a species, we’re still doing *the exact same shit* we’ve always done. We are so forgetful.

I wonder if you know our friend Heraclitus? His words were written down some 2,500 years ago – but just as true now as then:

“…But other men know not what they are doing when awake, even as they forget what they do in sleep.”

“The waking have one common world, but the sleeping turn aside each into a world of his own.”

“So we must follow what is common. Yet though /the logos/ is common, the many live as if they had a wisdom of their own.”

If only we could learn to listen! Especially if we would help others – for to speak truth, one must first be able to hear it. “in Roaring silence,” as you said…

“Hearing they do not understand, like the deaf. Of them does the saying bear witness: ‘present, they are absent.'” (“ἀξύνετοι ἀκούσαντες κωφοῖσιν ἐοίκασι· φάτις αὐτοῖσιν μαρτυρεῖ παρεόντας ἀπεῖνα” fr. 34)

You can find a .pdf of what we know of his writing here: philoctetes.free.fr/heraclitus.htm, if interested. Godspeed, friend.

Yes, very good. In that Silence, the place where our Souls are, lives a Voice. At times, I’ve heard it speak to me. At others, it’s a real search to find it. Worth it, though. And healing…

Wise words Rush. Thanks for sharing them. They have been said, again and again, but they all connote work and work, real work at any rate is too difficult. Easier to become a cog in the system that strike out on one’s own, eh?

      That alpha-bet is beautiful.
      Thanks again.

My brother turned me on to your blog a few weeks ago. It is my daily ritual to log in everyday and read your wisdom. I visit the older posts when you take the weekend off. I am a Stay at Home Mother in Florida, exploring Buddhism, and definitely tuned in to “The Shift” that is taking place. Thank You for your wisdom and stay Safe……

Vivek – It is a very horrible feeling of powerlessness to be squashed by TPTB and to know you are forbidden, even to think your own thoughts much less express them or relate them even if only for question and examination? So in the end can anybody or anything actually control your thoughts/beliefs/truth seeking ? Only if you let them, but not necessarily pleasant or as free as we might like. We are all faced with this oppression, just in varying degrees as now we are all Japanese, Indian, American, Israeli, all in the same stew so to speak. The world is changing rapidly as the systems meltdown and we must do whatever is necessary to get to the next best spot, so hopefully we can change it for the better. I suppose the other options are to simply let go………………… or whack the bit#%? s ?

    Good luck to all.

The more I read people’s essays , the greater I realize I missed writing, but I just can’t write. I started believing that am not cut out for it. And now this is a time I need to think if I can change this writer-block phase or not?!!!

Change is possible but it skins you alive and I like it.

I tried to be simple in every aspect of my life. Sometimes I feel I need to color it up , spice it up but nooooo this is not my type. I’ve changed many things and still am struggling a lot.
I just want to be simple … I still want to be naive so that people can laugh at me and I wouldn’t mind. I want to write simple , think simple I don’t want to be complicated… I want to be the change I look for in the world … I love Gandhi because of this statement…

    Bahaar.

Welcome Bahaar, clearly you can write and should, eh?
And yes, change, like a snake shedding it’s skin in annual ritual…. awesome…
And simplicity is suggesting itself to many now, to me for sure. The spicy world is giving me heart-burn…. literally!
      Thanks for sharing.

Heart burn indeed, so exactly where and what is the antacid ? Not sure there is any except within yourself and accepting such.
