Good Grief!

June 28, 2015

Yeah, greetongs. A freudian slip….

The page I am writing this post-let on has a huge rainbow stripe across the top.

Please wordpress…..

How apropos then, that I had come to post this, by the peerless Chris Hedges:

Discussing the subject of synthetic reality and celebrity Hollywood “culture,” Chris Hedges writes:

“Celebrity culture encourages everyone to think of themselves as potential celebrities, as possessing unique if unacknowledged gifts. It is, as Christopher Lasch diagnosed a culture of narcissism. Faith in ourselves, in a world of make-believe, is more important than reality. Reality, in fact, is dismissed as an impediment to success, a form of negativity.

The New Age mysticism and pop psychology of television personalities, evangelical pastors, along with the array of self-help bestsellers penned by motivational speakers, psychiatrists, and business tycoons, all peddle a fantasy. Reality is condemned in this popular belief system as the work of Satan, as defeatist, as negativity…” (Empire of Illusion, pg. 49)

And then:

Hedges continues:

“An image-based culture communicates through narratives, pictures and pseudo-drama.  Scandalous affairs, hurricanes, untimely deaths, train wrecks – these events play well on computer screens and televisions….Kings and queens once used their court conspiracies to divert their subjects.

Today, cinematic, political and journalistic celebrities distract us with their foibles and scandals. They create our pubic mythology.  Acting, politics and sports have become, as they were in Nero’s reign, interchangeable.  In an age of images and entertainment, in an age of instant emotional gratification, we neither seek nor want reality.”

What is REALLY REALLY going on?

A game? A simulacra? Virtu Reality? Did you get that?

Trippy times….the virtual world is looking really “RICH” isn’t it?

    Reblogged this on TheFlippinTruth and commented:
    Personally, I’m none too happy to have WordPress pressing me to celebrate LGBT political victories. Saddam and Gemmorah awaits.

    Today’s crazy world of voodoo finance and funny money created out of thin air reminds me of an Arabic folk story:

    Once upon a time there was a wise man named Mulla Nusruddin, known widely in his region for his wit.

    On a fine sunny afternoon, he was trying to relax under a peepul tree but there was lot of noise around the house, neighbours’ kids playing and singing;

    So he thought of a plan and called all of them and said” didnt you guys hear? There is a great watermelon sale going on in the next village, a rich man is giving away lots of watermelons for free, why don’t you guys go and get some?”

    Children were excited, went home to convince their parents to take them to the sale;

    After a while Mulla wakes up from his sleep and sees huge commotion; all villagers running towards next village;

    Mulla curiously asks someone what’s going on
    That guy says everyone is going to the watermelon mela; that his neighbour said they were the best melons he had eaten in years;

    Mulla laughs and goes back to sleep while everyone leave in a hurry

    But mulla Nusruddin is still thinking about juicy melons; what if there was a sale on?REALLY, Hmmm?

    Mulla suddenly gets up and starts running-
    “Wait, keep some melons for me too…”

    Ha ha, So where are my melons,huh?

    The uglier our world gets, the more people are looking for places to escape. Virtual reality, online video games, facebook, instagram, snapchat kardashians et al. are just distractions to pull us away from the reality of our own demise. As we lose our connection to the natural beauty of our earth, our distractions become more unnatural and ugly. The things that matter most to the people I interact with are some of the most deploreable things available today…..see my list above, but add to it things like the NFL, the new industry of war and the hollywoood-ism that surrounds it, the glorification of battle today reminds me of stories of the crusades, or the gladiators fighting in the coliseum.

    As usual, you always make me look at things from a slightly diffrent angle. I do, however, support same sex love. Just keep it in your bedrooms, adult and consenting of course, but I don’t need to know the details, thanks. Society is crily dumbing down, for sure. I enjoy the discourse very much that you and the ither commentators bring. Here’s to enlightenment!

      Here is to en-lighten-Ment indeed Helene…and of course same sex love is great, we all have it in us, homo-sensuality. It’s this marriage nonsense that is just strange to be-hold…but hey, to each their own, some of us just need to point things out, eh?
